Sealbook

Sealbook Terms of Use

Version 1, effective October 28, 2026 · by PlainworkApps

1. What Sealbook is

Sealbook is an app for keeping notes and checklists encrypted on your phone. It is not a password manager service, a cloud service or a backup service, and PlainworkApps ("we") never receives your content.

2. Your passcode and recovery key

Sealbook has no account and no password reset. Your notes can only be unlocked with your passcode, your Face ID or fingerprint (if turned on), or your recovery key. If you forget your passcode and lose your recovery key, your notes cannot be recovered by you, by us or by anyone else. Keeping your passcode and recovery key safe is your responsibility.

3. Data stays on your device

Your data is stored only on your phone. We have no server, accounts or copies. Your data can be permanently lost if you uninstall or clear the app, lose or replace your phone without a backup, turn on "Erase after 10 failed attempts" and it triggers, or an update or device fault damages it. Make and keep your own backups. Once you export a backup file or share text from the app, it is outside our control.

4. Security is strong, not a guarantee

Sealbook uses well-tested encryption, but no system is perfect. We are not responsible for access to your notes by anyone who knows or obtains your passcode, recovery key or unlocked phone, or through a compromised device. Don't make Sealbook the only copy of information you can't afford to lose.

5. Sealbook Pro (purchase and refund terms)

You can keep up to 10 notes and checklists for free. More requires Sealbook Pro, a one-time purchase through the App Store or Google Play, with no subscription. The store handles payment, and we never see payment details. The purchase is tied to your Apple ID or Google account and can be restored on any device signed into that account. Refunds follow the App Store's or Google Play's refund policy.

Your existing items stay yours either way: viewing, editing, deleting and exporting them is always free. Prices and features may change for new buyers, but existing purchases remain valid as long as the app is offered.

6. No warranty

Sealbook is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including that the app will be error-free, always available, secure against every threat or fit for a particular purpose. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.

7. Limit on liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost data, lost notes or lost profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Sealbook Pro or US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so some may not apply to you.

8. Rules of use

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Sealbook on devices you own or control, under these terms and the App Store's or Google Play's terms. You may not sell, rent, sublicense or commercially redistribute the app, copy or reverse engineer it, modify it or its data to get around the free limit, or use it to break the law.

9. Ownership

PlainworkApps owns Sealbook's code, design, graphics and name. You own everything you write in Sealbook; we claim no rights to it and never receive it.

10. App Store and Google Play

If you got Sealbook from the App Store: these terms are between you and PlainworkApps, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Sealbook. If Sealbook fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to Sealbook, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims; PlainworkApps is. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo or on a US prohibited-party list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.

If you got Sealbook from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply.

11. Ending

You can stop using Sealbook at any time by uninstalling it, which deletes your data on that phone. We may end your licence if you break these terms; you must then stop using and delete the app.

12. If a part doesn't apply

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, it is narrowed or removed only as far as necessary, and the rest stays in effect.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the version number and may ask you to accept the new version in the app before continuing.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Washington State, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer laws of where you live.
